Study of Low Power – Almost Blank Subframe for LTE HetNets

Nowadays, trend of communication and technology are increasing dramatically. More devices have increased capacity and performance than before such as mobile phones, electronic appliances and vehicles etc. The usage of these modern devices consumes large amount of data traffic in the wireless communication networks. With these reasons, the future mobile communication systems have to be able to support such increasing demand for data transmission as well as maintain the user experience. In this paper, time domain technique used to enhance the system performance of the LTE Heterogeneous Networks (HetNets) is focused, in particular the enhanced Inter-Cell Interference Coordination (eICIC). The main objective of eICIC is to enhance the system throughput performance and the user fairness. The Low Power-Almost Blank Subframe (LP-ABS) and Cell Range Expansion (CRE) are studied in this work. The simulator adapted from the Vienna LTE downlink system simulation is used to investigate the system performance under the utilization of LP-ABS. The results are observed in terms of average throughput, cell edge throughput and user fairness, while the different LP-ABS ratio and the reduced power levels are configured.
