ECC Atomic Block against Strong Side-Channel Attacks Using Binary Curves

There are many side-channel attacks against elliptic curve cryptography (ECC), such as Simple Power Analysis, Horizontal Collision Correlation Analysis, Improving the Big-Mac Attack and Differential Power Analysis. The countermeasures against those attacks are important research tasks in cryptography. Those side-channel attacks are executed by observing power consumption when the device implemented in cryptosystem performs cryptographic processing. From the viewpoint of the power consumption, we propose two atomic blocks which are the countermeasures against the above attacks for ECC over finite fields of characteristic two. In this paper, considering the possibility of stronger side-channel attacks appearing in the future, we assume a threat model and our atomic blocks are constructed to be safety for strong side-channel attackers with more powerful abilities.
