Lot-sizing and Scheduling with Machine-sharing in Clothing Industry

With the development of fast fashion and the popularity of customized products, clothing industry faces the increased demand for products, which causes the unbalanced using of resources. Thus it may be a good choice for sharing the idle processing resources among the manufacturers in a production system. Each manufacturer could rent the idle resources from others by paying the leasing cost to reduce the backlog of products. Meanwhile, manufacturers can obtain the revenue of renting idle capability to others while increasing the utilization of resources. In this paper, we extend the general lot-sizing and scheduling problem (GLSP) with machine-sharing (GLSP-M) in the sharing economy. We construct a mixed integer programming model of production with unrelated machines, where the objective is maximizing the total profits. For one manufacturer, apart from leasing cost and revenue, the profit also includes the income of processing by its own machines minus the cost which covers the inventory, backlogging and setup. Finally, we solve the model by applying CPLEX in several small-size instances. Numerical experiments have been conducted to validate the model.
