Dynamics of Fast-Switching Electrodynamic Actuator for Fuel Injection in Internal Combustion Engines

This paper presents a dynamic model of an electrodynamic (voice-coil) actuator that has fast-switching operation. The actuator is intended for fuel injection in internal combustion engines. The full general model of the actuator that includes electric, magnetic, thermal and mechanic phenomena had been discussed. The magnetic subsystem was qualitatively considered, and its best configuration had been suggested. The dynamics of actuator was simulated by a Simulink/Matlab model. The influence of stroke limiters (stoppers) on dynamic behavior had been studied. The modelling results showed the possibility of the obtaining of the switching speed that is necessary for the fuel injection.
