Case Analysis on Energy Saving Improvement of Commercial Air Conditioning Systems

This study aims to improve energy efficiency in an air conditioning system in a commercial building. This building has 8 floors above ground and 2 floors below ground. The building area is 5,500 square meters. In the main part of the air conditioning system, two 250RT and two 200RT chiller units were used. The water system is partially provided with chilled water pumps, cooling water pumps and zone pumps. The operation mode is two alternate operations, one standby mode. The air conditioning system opens and closes the equipment in a traditional mechanical manner. Therefore, it is necessary to manually start the air conditioning equipment by professional management personnel. This research case recalculates the building heat load. The original 250RT and two 200RT chiller units will be updated to two 250RT inverter chiller units. And optimize the chain control of the chiller units. In addition, a new cloud energy management system has been added to assist professional managers in operating the air conditioning system. The cloud energy management system can monitor and record the energy consumption of air conditioning equipment operation. After five months of equipment update and improvement projects, the results of energy-saving performance measurement and verification are known. The total energy saving rate of the air conditioning system is 65.0%. Approximately $91,000 in energy costs can be saved each year.
