A Contention Window Based Approach for Sensing Reports in Cognitive Radio Networks

Cooperative spectrum sensing plays vital role to detect existence of licensed user and avoid harmful interference. However, with the rise in spectrum sensing users' results, rise in reporting time, bandwidth utilization and communication overhead. To realize spectrum sensing, how to collect the sensing information from users, to decrease reporting time is problem of major concern. In this paper, we propose ordered-sequential reporting mechanism to reduce reporting time and communication overhead by collecting reports of the secondary users based on their reliability to meet the global decision requirement. The secondary users with high reliability transmit sensing information to the fusion center, which ultimately reduces reporting time and communication overhead. In the numerical results, we show that proposed ordered-sequential reporting has better performance than the order-less sequential reporting scheme.
