Voltage-Multiplier based Z-Source DC-DC Boost Converter: Analysis and Design

A Z-source dc-dc converter with combination of switched inductor and switched capacitor to increase the voltage gain is proposed in this paper. This converter has high voltage gain, reduced voltage stress across all the components compared to conventional impedance source dc-dc converter configurations. Its gain is almost two times the switched inductor quasi-Z-source dc-dc converter. The operation principle and detailed mathematical analysis is presented. The design equations are derived for the proposed converter. The converter is then compared with other existing converters reported in literature. The proposed converter has better dynamic performance, as analyzed by bode plots and pole-zero maps of control-to-output transfer functions of proposed and conventional Z-source dc-dc converters. The analysis of proposed converter is verified through the simulation results.
