Statistical evaluation of heat carrier losses from district heating networks

The energy performance of most district heating (DH) in present Romania are low, mainly due to poor technical conditions and reduced thermal loads. In this context, the current paper presents a statistical analysis of recorded data from an operational district heating network located in a city from Romania. The analysis focuses on the heat losses related to heat carrier losses (HLHCL) rather than the heat losses due to heat transfers to the environment (HLHTL). The results highlighted the share each operational cause has to the total amount of HLHCL, but it also revealed that heat carrier theft could be happening in some areas of the DH network.
