Latest Developments at the 11th Annual IEEE ECCE: Advances in Energy Conversion Systems and Applications

With a record attendance of more than 1,800 practicing engineers, researchers, professionals, and students from around the world, the 11th annual IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE) in Baltimore, Maryland, from 29 September to 3 October 2019, offered a diverse program comprising 1,069 technical papers, 18 tutorials, 18 special sessions, and 28 poster sessions spread over five days. Among the oral sessions, there were four memorial sessions dedicated to the three mentors who passed away this year: Prof. Bob Lorenz, Prof. Manfred Depenbrock, and Dr. Milan M. Jovanovic. In addition, it also included an exhibition of state-of-the-art products and tools from roughly 40 vendors, ranging from passive components and semiconductor device manufacturers to test and measurement instruments and simulation tool suppliers. The exhibition floor also demonstrated emerging technology research projects from students of various universities in the United States and Asia. Sponsored by the IEEE Power Electronics Society and IEEE Industry Applications Society, ECCE 2019?s professional program started on Sunday, 29 September, with 18 tutorials covering the practical implementation of gallium nitride (GaN) and silicon carbide (SiC) power devices to energy harvesting for the Industrial Internet of Things and artificial intelligence applications in power electronics.
