Energy Efficient Reversible Converter for an Alternating Current Locomotive

The article concerns the issues of the development of an alternating current locomotive with power semiconductor converters and principles of power circuits of reversible converters. Ways to increase the power coefficient of modern reversible converters were studied. In order to increase the power coefficient, technological solutions are proposed with a view to improve the typical algorithms of reversible converter control and its inclusion into the discharging chain circuit that consist of sequentially connected diode and a triple diode, and a diode and a transistor. These technical solutions increase the power coefficient of the converter in all the regulation zones in the rectifier mode up to 0.89.
