Elliptical Slot Rectangular Patch Antenna Array with Dual Band Behaviour for Future 5G Wireless Communication Networks

This paper presents a dual band rectangular microstrip patch antenna array with an elliptical slot for future 5G wireless communication networks. The single radiated element has resonating frequencies of 3.43 GHz and 5.4 GHz, with bandwidths of 400 MHz GHz and 250 MHz, respectively. VSWR of the antenna is 1.29 at 3.43 GHz and 1.07 at 5.4 GHz. The return loss at 3.43 GHz is -18.27dB, with maximum gain of 6.85 dB while at 5.4 GHz return loss is -29.75dB with maximum gain of 6.44 dB. The antenna is designed on a FR-4 (lossy) substrate with dielectric constant of 4.3 and loss tangent (tan δ) 0.02. The antenna has a compact size of 52×41×1.6 mm

. Array configuration is used to achieve a better gain, required for wireless communication. The proposed array has resonance frequencies of 3.43 GHz and 5.4 GHz with maximum gain of 8.77 dB and VSWR of 1.06. Centre series fed technique is used for the excitation of array. CST Microwave Studio, a 3D simulating tool, is used for the antenna design and calculation of the antenna parameters.
