Miniature Microstrip Antenna Design For Ultra-Wide Band Applications

A novel rectangular shaped patch antenna is designed for Ultra-Wide Band applications. The studied antenna is compact and has a small size (20 mm * 21.5 mm) with a 50-Ω feed line and a partial ground plane which offer a very simple geometry. The antenna is printed on FR4 material which has a depth of 1.60 mm and a relative permittivity equal to 4.3.The different results are obtained using the CST Microwave Studio software. The antenna operates over a 3.3 GHz to more than 35GHz (167 % bandwidth) range with a return loss less than -10 dB and voltage standing wave ratio less than 2.The reported antenna achieves a maximum gain of 6.5 dB.
