A Robust Commutation Error Correction Method for Brushless DC Motor of Reaction Flywheel

Due to phase delay and other non-ideal factors, the commutation error is inevitable in the drive of the brushless DC (BLDC) motor with and without the position sensors. Inaccurate commutation leads to the phase current deviating from the phase back electromotive force, which increases the losses of the motor. In order to improve the drive performance of the BLDC motor, a robust commutation error correction method for the BLDC motor is proposed based on the asymmetry characteristic of the terminal voltage when the commutation error occurs. The effectiveness of the proposed commutation error correction method was evaluated by experiments.
