Analysis of Distributed Air Gap Parameters of Differential Mode Inductor Considering Core Loss and Saturation

In order to produce sinusoidal voltage and current output from the start converter units (SCU), a LC filter needs to be added to the output side of the inverter. In the LC filter, the differential mode (DM) inductor is one of the indispensable components and its performance has the direct influence of the filtering performance. This paper focuses on the analysis of distributed air gap parameters of DM inductor, which meant to minimize the power loss and maximize the saturation current value. The simulation results indicate that the distributed air gap instead of a large air gap could increase the value of saturation current, decrease the average value of flux density , and further could reduce the core loss. But unreasonable air gaps number and length lead to lower utilization, higher core loss and smaller saturation margin. Some design and optimization are implemented and analyzed in the parameters of distributed air gap of DM inductor.
