Modelling and Simulation 3D Ultrasound Wave Propagation using k-space Pseudospectral Method in the Railway Track Geometry

The inspection of railway track infrastructure is important for transport safety. Inspection using nondestructive Testing (NDT) has been developed based on several methods. Ultrasonic testing (UT) is one powerful method for NDT of internal railway crack. UT involves the reflection of acoustic waves to detect internal defects. However, to reach deep into the structure and reflect useful echo-signal due to internal crack, a proper configuration is still challenging. With current technology of computing power, modeling and simulation of ultrasound wave phenomena on the railway, it is possible to simulate processes of NDT using UT. Simulations are used to determine parameters of ultrasonic testing, such as parameters of probes and scan plan and also in the analysis of results. The paper describes modeling and simulation 3D ultrasound wave propagation using k-space pseudo-spectral methods. The simulation results are very useful for verifying the propagation of the ultrasonic signal in the given beam pattern of a transducer in 2D and 3D, wave propagation on the internal of the railway with the effect on an area with 3D in the railway track geometry and the signal pattern on the railway surface on the receiver.
