Module Level Global Maximum Power Point Tracking Strategy

Partial shading of photovoltaic (PV) modules can occur at any time due to the obstacles such as chimney, tree, antenna, bird flock etc. Due to such obstacles, the entire surface of the PV module cannot receive an equal amount of irradiance; Therefore, PV modules cannot operate at its maximum power point (MPP). In this paper, an improved version of a 0.8VOC model based global maximum power point tracking (GMPPT) strategy has been proposed. Single ended primary inductance converter (SEPIC) is used as a power converter between PV module and load. Effectiveness of the proposed technique is presented by experimental studies with the comparison of a full scanning approach. Results of experimental studies show that proposed GMPPT strategy outperforms than full scanning based algorithm known.
