SCAN-ME: The Development of Augmented Reality Application Prototype using Information, Interface and Interaction Aspect

In an attempt to attract greater tourist expenditure along with greater tourist arrivals, this article proposes a tourist application called the SCAN-ME, that works by creating user suggestions based on the travel goal and individual budget limitations. The applications are based on augmented reality technology, whereby the user is presented with a three-dimensional model based on input from real world environment. This project was developed using Autodesk Maya, Unity, and Vuforia. By developing this application, tourists enriches the real-world with interactive virtual information that allows visitors to unfamiliar places to identify the most important and interesting points of interest and learn more about their surroundings. User testing gave a positive feedback on the idea of using augmented reality to promote Malaysian Tourism particularly in Penang. The scope of this project is for visitor. The target user of this application is the tourist who come to Penang for holiday. The aim of this project is to explore an implementation using paper maps as base map and overlay digital information accessed via a mobile device. Besides, to develop an AR Technology in tourism that can interact the real and virtual object and to evaluate easy access to information and reliable. This application gives more attractive information to tourist and will helps them to understand more about places in Penang.
