Embedded Payload Security Scheme using CoAP for IoT Device

Internet of Things is creating a buzz in the field of Computer Science and Embedded Systems. The crucial but often unacclaimed aspect in the IoT is Security. The importance of securely transmitting data over the Internet is compromised with the constrained characteristics of IoT devices. The application layer protocols of IoT- CoAP and MQTT are prominently researched to integrate the security scheme as they are better suited for lightweight communication. Transport Layer Security (TLS) and Datagram Transport Layer Security (DTLS) protocols has resource expensive computation and handshaking mechanism. This paper proposes a security scheme that is based on object (payload) security with symmetric key approach, where CoAP is used as transport protocol for end to end delivery of the message.
