A Fast and Accurate Transfer Function Validation Strategy Using Rotational Invariant Lead Trajectories

This paper demonstrates a novel strategy to validate the transfer function, which is used to predict the radiofrequency (RF) induced heating near the distal end of active implantable metallic device (AIMD) with long metallic leads under magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanning. The strategy uses a rotatable circular plate on which the AIMD is fixed. The rotational invariant lead trajectories in ASTM phantom are determined by rotating the circular mounting plate. The tangential components of incident electric fields along the different lead trajectories are highly orthogonal. Numerical simulations and measurement results are used to demonstrate the advantages of this method. This strategy is an efficient and accurate validation procedure compared to current validation strategies.
