Dual Polarizations Single-feed Cross-Dipole Energy Harvesting Surface

We present a single-feed energy harvesting surface (EHS) designed for electromagnetic energy harvesting. The EHS unit cell of the proposed harvester comprises two cross-dipoles with one feeding port that enables capturing the energy at multiple polarizations of the incident field at an operating frequency of 3.2 GHz. The simulation results yielded radiation to ac efficiency of 92% at two polarizations. A critical designing feature for the proposed single-feed cross-dipole EHS is that it minimizes the number of the rectifying elements (diodes) to half. The single-feed EHS also allows a direct matching to a rectifying circuitry at the cross-dipole plane.
