Auxiliary Space-based Preconditioner for Higher Order Finite Element Method : Performance investigation of a Hybrid CPU/GPU Implementation

This paper introduces a hybrid CPU/GPU multilevel preconditioner for large sparse linear systems that arise from the discretization of Maxwell's equations with higher order hierarchical finite elements. We compare the performance of the proposed approach with direct sparse solvers, and with a multiprocessor-based preconditioned iterative solution available in the commercial Altair Feko solver. This investigation shows significant speed-up with respect to the direct solvers, but moderate gain when compared to an efficient multi-processor-based preconditioner.
