Technical and Economic Analysis of ACCC Applied in UHV-DC Power Transmission Lines

In order to improve the efficient and safe of transmission lines to transmit electrical energy, new energy-saving type wires have emerged. Among them, the aluminum conductor with reinforced core of carbon fiber (ACCC) wire has the advantages of high current carrying capacity, low sag, corrosion resistance, high tensile strength, etc., and is economically effective in the transmission line. However, it is mainly used in the capacity expansion and transformation of the power grid, and the economics of its application in Ultra high voltage (UHV) DC transmission line needs to be further studied. In this paper, the annual cost method is used to analyze the electrical performance, mechanical properties and economy of ACCC and conventional aluminum conductor steel-reinforced (ACSR) wire. The life cycle cost of two wires when erected at various possible spans of 100 meters are obtained. It provides a theoretical basis for the application of ACCC in UHV DC transmission lines.
