An optimal capacity planning method for multiple types of renewable energy in combined operation considering different peak-shaving demands

Most of the areas with rich renewable energy are located far away from load center, in which the generated power should be transmitted to load center through Ultra-High Voltage Direct Current (UHVDC) lines. The combined operation of multiple types of renewable energy can improve operation safety and reliability, through making full use of their power output smoothing characteristic and the regulation capability of hydropower stations. In this paper, an capacity optimal planning method for multiple types of renewable in combined operation is proposed here. This model can consider the power output characteristic constraints of each type of renewable energy in sending-end power system and the regulation capacity for runoff, seasonal regulation and annual regulation hydro power stations. Besides, this model can adapt to the different peak-shaving demand of receiving-end power system. The effectiveness of proposed model is verified through simulation cases in one real planning power grid in Southwest China.
