Simulation Research on Switching Process of Reactive Power Equipment in DC Converter Station

Determining the reasonable reactive power balance and switching strategy of converter station is the basis for the safe and stable operation of HVDC transmission system. The reactive power demand of AC/DC systems and the capacity determination of reactive power compensation equipment are described in this paper. The pseudo-steady state DC model CDC6 is established in the PSS/E software, and its user-defined function is used to simulate the reactive power switching process of the converter station with both inductive and capacitive reactive power compensation equipment, from the two aspects of start-up and outage of the DC system. Finally, through the simulation example, the reactive power exchange amount between the converter station and the AC system is always within the limited range, which verifies the effectiveness of the method.
