Research on Quick Distributed Feeder Automation for Fast Fault Isolation/Self-healing in Distribution Network

The traditional centralized feeder automation must rely on the master station. It takes a long time to deal with the fault, and there is a short power outage in the non-fault area of the distribution network. Thus this paper researches the quick distributed feeder automation (QDFA) for fast fault isolation and self-healing in distribution network and analyses the constraint of the distribution network reliability. It is considered that the QDFA is one of the important ways to improve the reliability of distribution network. This paper proposes the definition, technical condition and implementation principle of the QDFA and builds a distribution network model in the Real Time Digital Simulator(RTDS).The examples are verified by experiments and there has been successful fault isolation and self-healing case in distribution network by QDFA in JiangBei new area, NanJing, China. It shows that the QDFA has the characteristic of fast fault treatment and can effectively improve the reliability of distribution network.
