An 8-to-20 GHz Wideband Yttrium-Iron-Garnet Tuned Oscillator Design with SRFT Integration

This paper reports briefly on a new development of wideband YIG tuned oscillator for instrument applications. The idea of this work is to integrate a simplified real frequency technique (SRFT) with MATLAB algorithm to construct a suitable matching network that matches the amplifier with a load that drives to the maximum power and the system oscillate at the minimum output power of 15 dBm resulting a wide bandwidth up to 20 GHz. With the loading of SRFT in one-port negative resistance oscillator employing SiGe HBT as reflection amplifier and loop-coupled YIG crystal that exhibits ferrimagnetic resonance delivered a promising state-of-the-art design capability. Nevertheless, with the ease of Advance Design System (ADS) EM simulation, the enhanced YIG based oscillator design has demonstrated phase noise performance below -130 dBc/Hz an offset of 100 kHz over the entire range of 8 – 20 GHz.
