Electromechanical Analysis and Experiment for a High-speed Permanent Magnet Synchronous Compressor Supported by Elastic Foil Bearing

As an important part of the new energy automobile industry in the future, the high-speed PMSC (permanent magnet synchronous motor for direct-driven air compressor) supported by elastic foil bearing is used to provide high-pressure air for fuel cell and realize high-efficiency chemical reaction. Firstly, a prototype driven by 11 kW at the speed of 70000 rpm supported by elastic foil bearing has been developed. Secondly, the analysis about electromagnetic, loss, rotor transient temperature and critical speed has been carried out. The analysis results show that the design is reasonable. Thirdly, the influence of protective sleeve outer diameter is discussed from the electro-mechanical point of view. The analysis results show that protective sleeve outer diameter has a very small impact on the electromagnetic characteristics, but it can greatly affect loss, rotor transient temperature and critical speed. It is necessary to select optimal parameters considering the influence of rotor protective sleeve outer diameter on both mechanical and electrical aspects. Lastly, the experiment running at the speed of 70000 rpm is accomplished. The experiment waterfall diagram of displacement amplitude and orbit of rotor center is obtained to verify all performances of PMSC prototype.
