RSSI Based Trilatertion for Outdoor Localization in Zigbee based Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs)

The prime function of a Wireless Sensor Network (WSNs) is to collect sensor data, process the data to enrich that or extract meaningful information from it and forward it to destination for further processing or analytics. In most of the cases and applications, it is significant to get information about the location of received data when a large number of Ad-hoc devices involved i.e. IoT devices. A localization technique can be used to extract this type of info in WSNs. Efforts are focused on to design a cheap, efficient, accessible localization mechanisms for WSNs. In this research, implementation of Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) based trilateration technique on Zigbee based IoT motes in outdoor scenario is made in COOJA simulator. This proposed scheme significantly reduces the error in localization with a deviation which is less than a meter.
