Compact HMSIW Semi-Hexagonal Antennas with Rectangular Slot

Design of Half-Mode substrate integrated waveguide (HMSIW) based compact semi-hexagonal antennas, with the use of a tapered rectangular slot to operate for 5 GHz wireless networks has been discussed in this paper. The parent hexagonal SIW cavity is bisected to obtain half-mode structures which results in two different structures Type-1 resonating at 5.9 GHz and Type-2 resonating at 5.57 GHz. The antennas are subsequently downsized by incorporating narrow rectangular slot having resonance at 4.9 GHz and 4.77 GHz respectively. The design part of the antennas was accomplished using the Arlon AD270 substrate and the simulation deductions are analyzed with the values obtained from measurement.
