Intelligent Classroom a Conceptual Model for the Effective Use of Internet of Things Technique

Student behaviours during a class are highly patterned and strongly linked to their learning styles. These patterns can be identified by a smart classroom system and used to provide feedback to the lecturer during an ongoing lecture. One of the enablers of such a system is the Internet of things (IoT), a concept based on the pervasive presence of smart `things'. Smart things are everyday objects equipped with adequate communication technology and ability to process information in a wide range of applications. This study proposes a conceptual model to improve learning methods in classrooms using IoT technologies. The model is based on three main phases: interaction learning phase, collaborative learning phase and smart analytics phase. Interaction learning phase includes the interaction between a lecturer and students and between students and devices. Collaborative learning phase focuses on the interaction between students for advancing to a higher level of understanding and knowledge. Smart analytics phase collects data to monitor and analyze student behaviours in the classroom and to develop and choose the appropriate learning method for students.
