Designing A Natural Disaster Ontology for Indonesia

A natural disaster is an event which generally brings negative impacts. There are various ways which can be used to help mitigate the effect of natural disasters. Modeling disaster hazard map can help mitigate the impact of natural disasters. There are several approaches which can be used to generate a hazard map. In the process of information collecting to produce a hazard map, several approaches can be taken, such as using taxonomy, relational database schema, or ontology. Indonesia is one of the disaster-prone countries. The current process of generating a hazard map in Indonesia is through the traditional method by using fieldwork and verifying the data manually. In this paper, we propose a natural disaster ontology developed by following one of the frequently cited methodologies. The process of developing ontology will be including various information source, primarily from official literature. The proposed ontology can be used or developed further to help information collecting to produce the hazard map in Indonesia.
