A Novel Sketch-based Image Retrieval Method Inspired by Retina

Due to the rapid development of network image capacity, the need for retrieving images online increases significantly. In this work, a novel sketch-based image retrieval method named Freak and ANN based image retrieval (FAIR in short) is proposed where features of images are extracted and described as binary descriptors by means of simulating pattern recognition of human retina. In order to classify the features, artificial neural network is applied to deal with the large data size. Experiments on 14 categories show that FAIR achieves over 92.5% in terms of retrieval precision.
