Telecommunications power architectures: distributed or centralized

Various plausible power architectures used in CO (central offices) and EEE (electronic equipment enclosures) are discussed. The attendant reliability advantages of distributed architectures are discussed at length. A cursory look into some major economic issues indicates the feasibility of such architectures and reveals a cost savings of about $36375 for architectures that are built using distributed topologies. It is noted that while such an architecture does not enjoy the years of trouble-free service and field experience that bulk architectures enjoy, today's bulk architectures lack the flexibility and the cost effectiveness that future telecommunications networks will demand, and that a distributed architecture can fill these voids.<>
