Design of 9-Switch Converter for DFIG System for Active and Reactive Power Control by PID and Fuzzy Logic Controller

Double Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) is widely used in wind power plants as energy conversion is easy and stabilized output can be achieved. The 6-pulse converters are used to control the reactive and active power it requires rectifier and inverter with dc link with capacitor for stabilization of dc voltage at rotor and grid side. But in these converters the output power is pulsating and the cost of such system will be more. To minimize such problems, 9-switch converter design is proposed in this paper it require 9-switches in rectifier and inverter side but in 6-pulse requires 12 switches. Thus 9-switch converter is cost effective and simple to operate. In controlling section of Double Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) system based converter model, the conventional PID controllers are used, in which the system is oscillatory at output which effects system and requires more controlling parameters to stabilize system, but with fuzzy logic control the system oscillations are reduced with minimum controlling parameters.
