Optimal Solutions of Integrated Optical and Wireless Applications Using GPON-RoF Technologies

This paper has demonstrated and evaluated the experimental comparison of various Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) techniques using dispersion compensated fibers for GPON-RoF hybrid architecture. In order to satisfy the demands of an increasing number of users, mobile and fixed hybrid architecture is required. Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON), optical access network seems to be more promising technology due to large bandwidth, decreased cost and supports a large number of users. Further, RoF will increase radio coverage along with mobility. In this paper, GPON and RoF architecture has been evaluated along with various FBG techniques and without FBG architecture, for the distance of 70km and bitrate of 1.25Gbps for GPON-RoF. Experimental setup shows that uniform FBGs with Q-Factor 19.751 for RoF and 83.7403 for GPON provides better results compared to RoF-GPON architecture without FBGs.
