Battery Degradation impact on the Electric Bus Fleet Scheduling

In this paper we deal with the battery degradation process and its possible impact on the scheduling of the electric bus fleet in the public transport system. The scheduling problem is quite well known and researched. Although, the nature of electric buses changes the base of problem due to the limited driving range and longer charging time in comparison to the conventional buses. Also, the battery goes through degradation process during the operation, which means its capacity is slowly reduced. From this reason the scheduling of the buses must be redone to preserve the service of all the trips. We model the scheduling problem as a mixed integer linear problem and solve it to optimality by a standard IP solver Xpress Ive. Our main goal is to investigate, how the solution and computation time changes with different maximum capacity of the battery. The performance is tested on datasets created from public transport system in Zilina.
