Abstract:
This paper proposes a depth sensing system developed to keep ships, submarines or underwater vehicle, at a safe depth level. Traditionally this goal is achieved by using echo sounders. A transmitter sends pulses of varying frequencies which after bouncing back are received and processed further to obtain the required results. Generally, the received data is processed using DAQ (Data acquisition) cards, aided by a microprocessor to find the depth or the distance between the vehicle and seabed. However, such an approach and solution are costly and requires greater space footprint. An efficient, portable and low-cost solution is proposed which is microcontroller based, and fully automated.
