Optical Frequency Comb Generation based on MZM for Elastic Optical Networks

In this paper, we present a comb generation conformed by twenty one subcarriers with a fixed space, following the ITU-T G.694.1 recommendation for Elastic Optical Networks. This generation is done through optical frequency comb generator (OFCG) using a single Mach Zehnder Modulator (MZM). The performance of 3 subcarriers is evaluated as a function of transmission distance in a wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) system based on coherent detection. It is demonstrated a successful transmission up to 100 km. Improvement in terms of BER by using combs centered at 193.2875 THz and 193.3250 THz are obtained in comparison with single lasers.
