Improving the shutter NUC algorithm by changing the shutter position to achieve a small and lightweight system

Small-sized designs are essential due to the development of the technology for sensors and electronic devices, including general electronic devices as well as missile systems, which are performance-critical. The shutter position from the front of optics (external shutter) to between the optics and the detector (internal shutter) must be changed to reduce the system size. To achieve it with minimum loss, the existing shutter non-uniformity-correction (NUC) algorithm should be improved to consider the effects of lens, particularly the vignetting effect. Therefore, the vignetting effect should be modeled similar to the actual lens effect to improve the uniformity after the suggested shutter NUC (modeled internal shutter). This study presents the details of a modeling method for vignetting and improves the shutter NUC algorithm that applies the modeled vignetting effect to a captured image of the internal shutter. The improved shutter NUC algorithm is validated with the modeling data generated with the conditions of the actual design parameter of a missile system.
