An Integrated Electric Motor Driven Compressor Supported by Magnetic Bearings

This paper introduces the benefits of an integrated electric motor driven compressor and discusses some of the important design aspects of such a machine. It then presents an integrated compressor and a magnetic bearing controller that Solar Turbines has developed, as well as some test results on this machine.
