Uplink Multi-panel Transmission Enhancements on Multi-beam Operation

The reliability and robustness of information transmission is very important for emergency communication. In order to improve the reliability and robustness of transmission this paper presents uplink multi-panel transmission enhancements on multi-beam operation in 5G NR, including uplink multi-panel transmission schemes, identifier for indicating UE panel and UE panel activation/de-activation. Furthermore, UL simultaneous transmission for a single TRP case in the indoor hotspot scenario is evaluated. From the evaluation results, it can be observed that UL simultaneous transmission approach can obtain significant performance gains over the panel-selection based approach in the 30GHz indoor hotspot scenario. Therefore, it is proposal that the signaling design for multi-beam enhancements in Rel-16 NR should also take UL simultaneous transmission into account for the future enhancements in Rel-17 NR.
