Dynamic characteristics of Interpolated-DFT-based frequency estimation method with Generalized Maximum Sidelobes Decay Windows

This paper investigates dynamic properties of the novel frequency estimation method in terms of potential use in real-time system for frequency grid estimation where only short data records of the signal are available for a measurement. Presented algorithm is a three-point interpolated discrete Fourier transform method that uses the generalized maximum sidelobes decay windows derived from the I-class Rife Vincent windows family and is formulated with direct analytic formula. Impact of the conjugate component of the input real sine-wave is taken into consideration to eliminate additional distortion. The method is evaluated with computer simulations where the measure window duration is in the order of tens of milliseconds and the measured signal changes rapidly from 50 to 55 Hz. Simulation results are analyzed in terms of response time and accuracy to determine dynamic characteristics of the method.
