Uplink Power Control of the DUDE Mode in HetNets

As current cellular networks are becoming increasingly heterogeneous, traditional cell association rule based on the maximum downlink received power no longer serves well. The downlink and uplink decoupling (DUDE) are proposed for improving system performance. However, in DUDE association scheme, macro user equipment (MUE) will suffer more interference from the offloaded DUDE user equipment (DUDE UE) in uplink. In this paper, we apply the power control scheme to mitigate co-channel interference from small user equipment (SUE) and DUDE UE to MUE and guarantee the Quality of Service (QoS) of each user. We extend three power control schemes in homogeneous networks to HetNets and compare the convergence and optimality of these schemes through theory analysis. In addition, we propose an improved distributed power control (IDPC) scheme. The simulation results show that the IDPC scheme can effectively improve the system performance, especially when many users suffering severe mutual interference.
