Revving up the Internet of Things Ecosystem-The case of India

This paper studies the Internet of Things (IOT) ecosystem from the standpoint of developing countries. IOT is a complex web of technologies/standards, politico-legal-regulations, market, academics and users. This dynamic complex technological system is studied using an analytical framework. Any technological system does not simply succeed or fail because of its inherent strengths and weaknesses but is influenced by a host of actors- the policy and regulatory setup in that country, the market dynamics and business models, end-user perceptions and their role in adopting the offered solutions. India is the interest area of this paper as a case study. India presents its unique challenges as it aspires to join the big league in technology. The paper finds that in the field of IOT, the country has the right ingredients, although multiple challenges are present. The paper comes up with a set of recommendations to harness the inherent strengths, minimize and cross the bridge across the various challenges to harness the potential of IOT.
