Design and Development of UWB Dielectric Resonator Antenna

A new design of Surya Yantra shaped Dielectric Resonator Antenna (DRA) is proposed in this paper. Conformal strip feed is used for better feed to DRA impedance matching. Air gap insertion technique is used to achieve ultra-wide bandwidth (UWB). Slots are introduced in rectangular DRA design. The proposed antenna was fabricated, and the simulated results were verified with measured ones. Measured return-loss bandwidth (BW) of about 113.3% (2.6 to 9.4 GHz) is achieved. The antenna covers entire C- and X-band frequencies. The antenna design and its associated simulated and measured results are discussed in detail.
