Performance Analysis of Random Sequence Encoded RadarCom Signals

In this work we investigate approaches to analyzing and optimizing performance of the joint radar-communication waveform design with low probability of intercept characteristics. The data are encoded onto the scale parameter of Weibull distribution, while the shape parameter is known to the authorized receivers; using this distribution, random sequences are generated, which become amplitude weights for the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) sub-carriers. We consider a scenario in which an unauthorized interceptor attempts to reconstruct the data by performing maximum likelihood estimation of both distribution parameters and demonstrate the lack of efficiency of this operation in presence of additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN). We also analyse a Monte Carlo-based method of improving two radar characteristics of thus generated radarcom signals. Finally, we develop and analyse the method of interceptor penalization based on time-varying of the Weibull distribution's shape parameter.
