Implementation of SAM and MF Algorithms with Multi-Core Programming

In conjunction with the recent developments in remote sensing technologies, as a result of both the spatial and spectral resolution increases of the image data, the analysis operations made using this data have big difficulties in storage, transferring and processing. When the real/near real-time analysis of exponentially growing data is required online, the implementation of parallel approaches in critical applications, rather than the traditional methods that are inadequate, has become a necessity. In this paper, the Spectral Angle Mapper (SAM)and Matched Filter (MF)algorithms, which are frequently used in remote sensing applications, have been developed using OpenMP technology and have been integrated into a remote sensing application that works online. As a result of experiments, 3–4 times improvement for offline and 16–19 times improvement for online has been achieved when compared to MATLAB algorithms.
