Review of High Throughput Satellites: Market Disruptions, Affordability-Throughput Map, and the Cost Per Bit/Second Decision Tree

In this paper, we provided an overview of throughput Satellites, integrating both market and technical considerations, and we examine important metrics and tradeoffs for these satellites, including their cost per bit/second decision tree and their positioning in the affordability-performance map. Ground segments and gateways, important considerations for HTS, were not within the scope of this paper (see for example Jeannin et al. [30] for an analysis of these issues).
