Guest Editorial Special Issue on Verification and Validation of Air Gun Source Signature and Sound Propagation Models

The papers in this special issue focuses on the verification and validation of models for predicting the sound field radiated by air guns and air gun arrays. This issue aims to address the demand for increasingly precise assessments of environmental impacts, requiring accurate characterization of the air gun array sound field, including the interface between source signature models and sound propagation models. To address this need, a modeling workshop was held in July 2016. Participants in the 2016 workshop were asked to predict, for specified scenarios, the time series of sound pressure and sound particle acceleration at different positions relative to the source, as well as the sourcewaveform. Air gun modeling experts worldwide, including the 2016 workshop participants, were invited to contribute to this special issue.
