Considerations about Substation Grounding System Design

This work analyses the parameters that influence the design of grounding system for substations. From these, the grid geometry is defined by some variables which influence drastically the touch and step voltages. The design procedure, based on Romanian standards, is briefly described and applied on an example. The values of above mentioned quantities are modified, the results being interpreted focusing both technical and economical perspectives. Finally a recommended design procedure, to achieve a technical and economical optimum is presented.
